Ireland Area 2: East Wexford

The CHERISH team will investigate the priority site of Glascarrig, a 12th century Benedictine priory and associated motte and bailey. In 1167, Diarmuid MacMurchada landed at Glascarrig after he secured the help of the Henry II to recover his lost kingdom from Ruaidri Ua Conchobair. At Kilmichael point and Kilpatrick beach built heritage and archaeological sites are eroding into the sea, a rapid coastal zone assessment aims to record previously undocumented sites along with enhancing the record of the known archaeological sites in this areas.
