Wales Area 11: Dale, Skomer Island and The Smalls, South Pembrokeshire

CHERISH Project Wales Area 11 Skomer

The Dale-Marloes peninsula in south-west Pembrokeshire is home to some of the most important and spectacular coastal heritage sites and nature reserves in west Wales. These include the renowned island landscapes of Skomer and Grassholm, the offshore reef of the The Smalls and numerous eroding coastal sites on the mainland including Gateholm Island settlement, Great Castle Head promontory fort and the Mesolithic settlement at Nab Head on the north coast. A number of projects are planned to better understand and monitor the archaeology and palaeoenvironmental history of these eroding coastal sites and the rich legacy of undersea wrecks.
